Pedestrian accident leaves 2 boys without their mother

Police recently arrested the individual responsible for an accident which claimed the life of a New York woman who was crossing a street. This auto vs. pedestrian accident occurred on Dec. 11, in Brooklyn. The victim was a single mother of two teenage boys.

According to a recent news report, a 56-year-old woman was crossing at the intersection of Avenue Y and Second Street when she was struck by a car. Authorities say she was in the crosswalk when hit. The driver fled the scene but was located the following day.

The driver — a 55-year-old woman — has since been charged for failure to yield, failure to exercise care and leaving the accident scene. It is unclear when her criminal case will go to trial. This event also prompted area and city officials to call for signage and road improvements at this particular intersection. Apparently, it is known for being dangerous.

This pedestrian accident has forever changed the lives of two young men who will now grow up without their mother. The financial and emotional toll this event will have on them and other family members of the victim will surely be significant — now and in the long term.
