New York certainly sees more than its fair share of pedestrian accidents. Recently it was reported that an SUV hit a bus and then two people, injuring a total of 12 individuals. Police are still in the process of investigating this auto-pedestrian accident.
According to a recent report, this incident occurred in Harlem on Saturday, July 1. The driver of an SUV — a 58-year-old male — struck the rear end of a transit bus while operating his vehicle on 125th Street. The SUV then jumped the curb and struck two people who were on the sidewalk. The pedestrians and 10 others were hurt and transported for medical treatment. Two of the victims are said to have suffered serious injuries, but all are expected to recover.
The individual deemed responsible for this wreck is thought to have suffered a medical event, which then led to the collision. He is a driver for Uber. It is unknown if he was on-duty when the crash occurred. Police have not indicated if any criminal charges have been or are expected to be filed in this case.
An auto-pedestrian accident is, undoubtedly, a painful and frightening thing to experience. The injuries one might suffer can have lifelong effects, even with medical treatment. Those injured in this particular incident, pedestrians and vehicle passengers, may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses by filing legal claims in a New York civil court against the driver believed responsible. Each individual victim can turn to an experienced personal injury attorney who will be able to help them file the appropriate actions and seek maximum relief.
