A young woman in New York recently died following a minor auto collision. The individual deemed responsible for the car accident has yet to be located. When he or she is, the victim’s family may have legal recourse.
According to a recent news report, an 18-year-old woman was operating her vehicle eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike when she collided with a pickup truck that turned in front of her from a side street. Both she and the driver of the pickup pulled over at a gas station. When the woman exited her vehicle to talk to the other driver, the driver of the pickup hit the gas, struck the teenager and fled the scene. The victim suffered severe head trauma and died at the hospital hours later.
Police are asking any witnesses to this event to share their information. They say that due to the time and location of this accident, witnesses should not be lacking, as it is a very busy area in Levittown. When found, the driver responsible for this young woman’s death will likely face serious criminal charges.
There was no reason for this relatively minor car accident to be elevated to this point. It was a truly senseless act. When the driver responsible for this event is located, the victim’s family may pursue wrongful death and any other applicable legal claims against him or her in an effort to seek compensation for their losses. If they can prove negligence, a New York civil court may grant them maximum relief for any documented losses.
