2 injured, 1 killed in New York car accident

Police in New York are investigating the cause of an auto wreck that killed one individual and left two others injured. This car accident occurred Sunday, Dec. 17, in the Dyker Heights area. If either driver is thought to have been negligent in his or her actions leading to this incident, he or she may be held legally accountable for the losses suffered by the victims and their families.

According to a local news report, at approximately 2:45 p.m., law enforcement authorities responded to a collision that occurred at Eleventh Avenue and 81st Street. Upon arriving, they discovered that the driver of a car that was eastbound on 81st Street had collided with a sedan — being used as a ride share service — that was northbound on Eleventh. The force of impact caused the sedan to strike a parked vehicle before coming to a stop. The driver of the sedan and her two passengers were injured in the wreck and transported to a medical center for treatment. Sadly, one of the passengers — an 89-year-old female — succumbed to her injuries.

Little information is known about the driver who is believed responsible for causing this crash. Authorities have not indicated if any charges are pending against this individual. As for the driver of the sedan, police arrested the 42-year-old female for operating a vehicle on a suspended license. This incident is still under investigation.

When a ride share vehicle is involved in a car accident, the injured passengers and — in the event of fatality — the surviving family members of deceased victims may be able to seek compensation for their losses by pursuing civil actions against all those who may be deemed responsible. In this case, claims may be filed against both drivers and the ride share company. If negligence can be established successfully against any of these parties in a New York civil court, a monetary judgment may be awarded for all recoverable losses.
