A fatal motor vehicle crash in Cicero has left one 16-year-old dead and a second clinging to life. New York authorities responded to the fatal car accident shortly after 6:30 a.m. the morning of Oct. 3. At the moment, they have not filed charges against the driver, but they have ensured the public that their investigation is thorough and exhaustive.
According to the accident report, a 16-year-old boy was heading northbound on Interstate 81 when his car inexplicably crossed the center median into the southbound lanes. His vehicle struck an SUV head-on. Both the driver and a 16-year-old passenger were rushed to a local hospital, where the passenger was later pronounced dead.
The alleged at fault driver is in critical condition as of this report. The driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police have not commented publicly on what they believe to be the cause of this accident, though driver error has not been ruled out. They have also not ruled out recklessness or negligence as possible causes for the vehicle to have entered the southbound lanes.
New York police will continue their investigation until they determine exactly what happened to cause the fatal car accident. At that time, it is possible they might file charges against the teen driver. Even if they do not, the family of the deceased passenger and the injured driver of the other vehicle will both be entitled to file wrongful death and/or personal injury lawsuits in a civil court, possibly using police evidence to bolster their cases.
