It is important to follow the rules of the road. These rules are designed to keep drivers safe while on the roads and freeway. However, when a driver fails to follow them, he or she could put the lives of other motorists in danger. Unfortunately, this is what one driver is accused of doing recently after a fatal truck accident in New York.
The deadly incident occurred when a commercial vehicle crossed the median as it was driving along the New York Thruway in Monroe County. A 51-year-old man and another man were killed in a pickup truck which was headed in the opposite direction of the commercial vehicle. The head-on crash happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. on a Monday in late June. The vehicles collided in the westbound side of the roadway.
This initial collision spawned a multi-vehicle crash which involved six vehicles, causing the authorities to temporarily close down the Thruway for a few hours. The driver of the commercial vehicle has been identified as a 51-year-old man. He was transported, along with another driver, to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for injuries.
The New York State Police are currently investigating the fatal truck accident. Currently, no criminal charges have been filed, and nobody involved in the crash has been arrested. However, it is possible for those injured in the incident to file personal injury lawsuits even if no criminal charges are brought. Also, the family of the decedents may elect to file wrongful death lawsuits in order to seek financial relief for the monetary damages sustained.
