Police in New York are in the process of investigating a crash that left one person dead and several others injured. The multi-car accident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 25, in Queens. To date, no charges have been filed against any of the drivers involved.
According to a recent news report, a 29-year-old male was driving his vehicle northbound on the Van Wyck Expressway when, near Exit 12, he slammed into the side of a sedan. His passenger suffered injuries in the collision and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the sedan — a 27-year-old female — lost control of her car, hit the median and ended up in the southbound lanes where her vehicle struck a Jeep and was then hit by a pickup. A passenger in the sedan died at the scene. The drivers of the sedan, Jeep and pickup all suffered injuries and required medical treatment.
The driver responsible for the collision failed to stop and hit two other vehicles in the northbound lanes of the expressway. Another car in the southbound lanes suffered damage due to debris from all the wreckage. Thankfully, no one in these other three vehicles was hurt.
The cause of this multi-car accident is still under investigation. It is unclear if any charges are pending against the man thought responsible. Even if criminal charges are not filed, the victims of this event and the surviving family members of the deceased may be entitled to pursue legal claims against this young man in an effort to seek compensation for their losses. An attorney experienced in personal injury and wrongful death cases will have the ability to review and investigate this matter and help those who wish to seek damages file and litigate — if necessary — the appropriate claims in a New York civil court.
