Law enforcement officials in New York are investigating the cause of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred recently on Long Island. The driver believed responsible for the incident has been arrested and is facing some serious charges. When this type of event occurs, the victim’s surviving family members may have legal recourse. In this particular case, a wrongful death claim and possibly survival actions may be filed in an effort to seek compensation for any damages sustained as a result of this accident.
According to reports, during the evening of Feb. 16, a 36-year-old male was operating his vehicle on Sunrise Highway in the Copiague area when he hit a pedestrian. The victim was identified as a 38-year-old male. He was transported to an area hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver deemed responsible for this incident is no stranger to driving issues. He apparently has 30 license suspensions on his record. With this most recent incident, he has been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of his vehicle, which is a felony level offense.
Few details about how this accident happened have been reported. Authorities are still in the process of reviewing this case. Even though the case is still under investigation, the victim’s family members do not have to wait to start the process of seeking compensation for their losses. An experienced wrongful death attorney will be able to begin reviewing the facts of their case and, when ready, file and litigate any appropriate legal claims in a New York civil court.
