It was recently reported that several pedestrians were struck in New York. Sadly, this is a headline seen all too often in this state. It is believed that a drunk driver was responsible for this most recent event.
According to a local news outlet, a 23-year-old male was operating his car on Halsey Street in Brooklyn when the collision occurred. He had allegedly gotten into an altercation with a group of men just down the street from the accident site, then he hopped into his vehicle and sped away. His car jumped the curb, struck six people and lost a tire but he failed to stop. He continued on his way and was found by police a few blocks away.
The accused, along with four of the victims, were transported to a hospital for treatment. He was likely taken into police custody after being released from the medical facility. No further details about his case have been reported.
Some of the injuries suffered by the victims were thought to be severe, though none were life-threatening. Still, in an event like this, it is not just the physical injuries that are cause for concern. The victims of this crash are likely to suffer psychological and financial damages as well which, combined with the physical injuries, can all take a massive toll on their lives. According to the state of New York, when a drunk driver causes an accident, the victims may have legal recourse. In this case, each of the injured may pursue damages by filing personal injury claims in a civil court.
