On Nov. 21, in New York, a man took a child for a joy ride, crashed the car and then fled the scene — leaving the child injured and alone. This car accident occurred in the Whitehall area. Charges have been filed against them man deemed responsible for the incident.
This is a car crash that has made national headlines. A 36-year-old male is said to have taken his mother’s vehicle without her permission and allowed an 8-year-old child to sit on his lap and steer while he operated the pedals. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop when it hit a tree. The man was nowhere to be found when police arrived on scene. They did transport the child to the hospital in order to treat a number of injuries including several fractures, head trauma and a punctured lung.
Authorities were able to located the driver the following day. He had sought treatment at an area hospital for injuries he, too, suffered in the wreck. He was booked into jail after his release from the medical facility. Bail has been denied in this case.
The relationship between the victim and the accused has not been released to the public. Regardless of their relationship, the child and his or her parents or legal guardians may pursue compensation for the physical, financial and emotional losses resulting from this car accident. An experienced personal injury attorney can help the victim and his or her family sort through the options for legal recourse and litigate the appropriate claims in a New York civil court. If the case is successfully managed, maximum relief may be awarded.
