Wrongful death: Single-car crash kills 3, seriously injures 1

New York drivers are likely aware of the fact that they are responsible for the safety of their passengers. If a driver’s negligence results in the death of a passenger, he or she may be held accountable by the family of the deceased passenger, and they will be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. Such claims may follow a recent accident in which two passengers lost their lives.

An accident report indicates that Syracuse police and firefighters responded to the scene of an accident in the early hours of a recent Monday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered three unresponsive people and one unconscious woman. Crash investigators are reportedly working on determining the circumstances that led to the accident.

The person who was a passenger in the front seat and the driver were declared dead at the accident scene. Another passenger who was rushed to a hospital was declared dead upon arrival. The unconscious passenger was the sole survivor of this accident, and she was also transported to the hospital in a serious condition.

The surviving family members of the two passengers who lost their lives in this tragic crash may pursue financial relief to assist in settling the costs of end-of-life arrangements and other losses. They may file wrongful death claims against the estate of the deceased driver in a New York civil court. Negligence on the part of the driver will have to be established before any monetary judgments will be entered. Similarly, the injured victim may file a personal injury claim for recovery of damages. Both financial and emotional losses may be claimed, as long as they are adequately documented.
