New York police are currently investigating an accident that killed four people and left two others injured. The fatal accident is believed to have been caused by an erratic driver. According to reports, the individual deemed responsible for the wreck is among those who died.
The night of July 4, in Middle Island, was a busy one for authorities. Just before 11 p.m., they were called to the scene of a terrible head-on crash between a pickup truck and a sedan. According to witnesses, the driver of the pickup — a 25-year-old male — was speeding and driving erratically when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the centerline and struck a car. The truck’s driver was thrown from his vehicle, and he died at the scene of the crash.
Two adult passengers in the impacted car were killed in the wreck. The driver was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Another adult and an infant were both rescued and transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions are unknown.
As of the latest report, police had not yet released the identities of the victims, as they were still working on notifying family members. They do believe that the five occupants of the sedan were all related. For surviving victims and family members, the losses experienced as a result of this fatal accident are likely many. After such an incident, they may not feel that they have any legal recourse; however, this is not the case. Wrongful death and personal injury claims may be filed against the estate of the individual deemed responsible in an effort to seek any damages that are considered recoverable under New York laws.
